2012 Give Kids a Smile Day Houston: Big success

The University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston (UTSD) joined forces with the Greater Houston Dental Society (GHDS) to host “Give Kids A Smile Day Houston” on Saturday, Feb. 11 in observance of National Children’s Dental Health Month.
With help from the Houston Asian American Dental Society, the San Jose Clinic and financial support from the Susman Family Foundation, GHDS and UTSD organized more than 300 volunteers to provide free dental care for approximately 85 prescreened children and adolescents from uninsured or low-income families. The volunteers included pediatric and general dentists, dental faculty members, pediatric residents, dental students, dental hygienists, dental hygiene students, chairside assistants, administrative personnel and GHDS and UTSD staff members.
All together, the oral exams, cleanings, sealants, radiographs, fillings, extractions, restorations, nerve treatments and stainless steel crowns were valued at nearly $60,000. Read more
