Global cardiovascular disease focus of UTHealth’s 24th annual preventative forum
Francisco Fuentes, M.D., directs Preventive Cardiology Forum for 24th year at UTHealth
HOUSTON – (Jan. 15, 2014) – “Global Cardiovascular Disease Prevention and Interventions” will be the theme of the 24th annual Preventive Cardiology Forum of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth).
Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of mortality and morbidity in the world. Seven experts will present information and lead discussions on new knowledge and strategies for local and global initiatives on cardiovascular disease prevention. The event, free and aimed at healthcare professionals, will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 1:10 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014 at the UTHealth Medical School, 6431 Fannin St., Room 3.001.
Francisco Fuentes, M.D., program director and holder of the Theodore R. and Maureen O’Driscoll Levy Endowed Professorship in Cardiology Research at the UTHealth Medical School, will lead a panel discussion.
UTHealth speakers will include L. Maximilian Buja, M.D., professor of pathology and laboratory medicine and executive director of the Houston Academy of Medicine-Texas Medical Center Library; Olasimbo Morounmubo Chiadika, M.D., assistant professor of medicine; Poyee “Pansy” Tung, M.D., associate professor of medicine; and Zhenhao “Larry” Liu, a fourth-year medical school student. Baylor College of Medicine speakers include Carlos Vallbona, M.D., professor of family and community medicine; and Vijay Nambi, M.D., assistant professor of medicine.
Poster presentations will be made by Liu and Naddi Marah, fourth-year medical school student at the American University of the Caribbean, St. Maarten.
Collaborators include the American Heart Association, the UTHealth Medical School, Baylor College of Medicine, Memorial Health System of East Texas, Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center; UTHealth School of Nursing and the University of Texas School of Public Health Brownsville Regional Campus, part of UTHealth.
