HOUSTON – (Oct. 24, 2013) The Denton A. Cooley, MD and Ralph C. Cooley, DDS University Life Center, located at 7440 Cambridge Street, and Auxiliary Enterprises at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth) will host a Fall Showcase and Open House from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013.

“This is a great opportunity for meeting and event planners of the Texas Medical Center community to discover this facility,” said Paula Hobbie, Auxiliary Enterprises’ conference operations coordinator. “The contemporary style and modular design facilitates the flexibility needed to stage a variety of events. Additionally, we want the community to experience the latest addition to our wonderful campus.”

The Cooley Center serves as a multi-purpose venue for UTHealth faculty, students and staff, the institutions of the Texas Medical Center and the Houston community at large. The center is available for university gatherings, professional conferences, continuing education courses, distance learning programs and other special events related to the university's mission. The 14,000-square-foot center has a modular design that allows for a variety of events and audiences.

Cooley Center staff and the newly awarded preferred catering vendors will be available to discuss availability, products and services.  The event will include menu samplings from the following participating preferred catering vendors: Catering by Culinaire; Cleopatra Palace; Frankie B. Mandola’s Catering; Jim Benton of Houston; Melange Fine Cuisine; Rosemary’s Catering and Silver Stone Events.

The conference center is named in honor of the renowned heart surgeon Denton A. Cooley, M.D., surgeon-in-chief, founder and president emeritus of the Texas Heart Institute at St. Luke’s Episcopal Hospital, and his father, Ralph C. Cooley, D.D.S, who was a 1908 alumnus of the UTHealth School of Dentistry. In keeping with the vision and generosity of the Cooley family, UTHealth is committed to utilizing this space to support the enrichment of university life, facilitate collaboration within the Texas Medical Center and promote the health sciences.
