Aquatics

The pool is currently closed due a major renovation.  It is anticipated to reopen February 22, 2017!

Aquatics at the Recreation Center take place in our outdoor, Olympic-size swimming pool. The pool is heated and is open year-round. The pool is always open for lap swimming during open facility hours; however, it closes 30 minutes prior to the facility.  We also offer a variety of year-round and seasonal programs.

Children under 16 must be accompanied AND supervised by a parent/guardian at all times.

Monday—Friday: 5:30am—9:30pm

Saturday: 8:00am—7:30pm
Sunday: 10:00am—7:30pm

SUMMER FAMILY SWIM HOURS*
Monday—Friday: 12:00pm—8:00pm
Saturday: 8:00am—7:30pm
Sunday: 10:00am—7:30pm

*SUMMER HOURS
When the weather is consistently warmer, the blankets are removed and SUMMER HOURS are in effect.
During SUMMER HOURS, families with children may swim during posted hours only.
SUMMER HOURS are typically from March to November, depending on the weather.

**WINTER HOURS
When the weather gets consistently cooler, blankets are installed and WINTER HOURS are in effect.
During WINTER HOURS, no one under 16 is allowed in the pool or on the pool deck area.
WINTER HOURS are usually November to March.

Swim Lessons

Private or semi-private swim lessons are now available for children (must be at least 4 years old and potty-trained) or adults.  Lessons are designed for all levels!  From basic skills + water safety to transitioning to defined strokes or advanced stroke refinement  Participants do not need to be current members of the Recreation Center, but must meet eligibility requirements  Lessons are open to all Texas Medical Center faculty, staff, residents, students and families and UT System alumni.  Ready to hit the water?  Complete and submit the Registration Form to the Membership Desk and an instructor will be in touch within 2-3 days to set up a lesson!

Note: We are no longer offering group swim lessons.

Employment Opportunities

Each summer we hire Swim Instructors and Pool Attendants.  Individuals may be employed both a Swim Instructor and Pool Attendant or assigned to just one position.  Employment is for late May through August and we begin accepting applications in March. Ideal position for teachers, college students and high school students with an aquatic background.  To teach group swim lessons, employees must be at least 18 years old and a high school graduate.  Those ages 16-17 may be employed as Pool Attendants or Assistant Swim Instructors, when needed.
