Disadvantaged Student Guidelines
Disadvantaged Student Eligibility
The Office of Student Financial Services at UTHealth awards qualified applicants assistance from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) in the form of loans for disadvantaged students in the medical and dental (DDS) programs. The DHHS definition of economically ‘disadvantaged’ student is based on 200 percent of the Department’s poverty guidelines. The guidelines, which apply regardless of student's age, independent/dependent, or marital status, are as follows:
|Size of Parent's Family*||Income Level**|
|For each additional person add:||$ 8,320|
*Means number of exemptions listed on parents' federal income tax forms (e.g., family size of 4 might include two parents and two dependents).
**Adjusted gross income for calendar year 2015, rounded to nearest $100.
All interested applicants must provide the parent information on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), complete the Parent Income & Resource Certification and attach a copy of the parents’ 2015 I.R.S. Tax Transcript.
Recipients will be notified via their Financial Aid Award Notification (via MyUTH).
